Frequently Asked Questions What is samba? Samba is a musical genre from Brazil. The Samba we will be playing is Batucada, the percussion ensemble style associated with the Rio Mardi Gras and Notting Hill Carnival. What instruments do you provide? Our percussion workshops are fully resourced with authentic Brazilian percussion, instruments made by Gope, RVM, Contemporanea etc. Who have you worked for before? Please click on the Testimonials page. Can we record the session? We offer a free basic recording of every session or Soundbase Productions can record, mix, master and reproduce the high quality recordings. Please contact us for more details. I have no experience in playing or reading music, will I still be able to participate? Absolutely! The workshops are practical, achievable and supportive of the learner. No reading music and no boring theory. Will I be asked to play on my own? Not unless you are excelling! All our workshops are supportive and non-competitive. How long do your sessions last? Normally an hour and a half. However, taster sessions can be arranged, as can "drop in, drop out" and longer sessions for more in depth tuition. Can workshops to lead to a performance? Yes, you can have as many sessions as needed. Some workshops have a performance timetabled into the end of the first session. Groups including Standard Life Assurance and Cambridge University have played their first gig after 90 mins tuition! Can I book you or your band for performances? Indeed! Tom has played on stage, Radio, TV, on the street, in the studio and on the beach. Our samba band Samba Ninja will be the highlight of any event. What do you charge? Each session is bespoke and so the fees may vary. Concessions may be available for worthy causes. Do you have Public Liability insurance? Yes, please contact for a copy.
